Our Activities

SODEPUR SUZALAM SOCIETY

Providing Training and Platform

Talent is not limited to the privileged; it can be found in the most unexpected places. And we believe that everyone deserves a chance to explore their talents. Therefore,  we at Sodepur Suzalam Society are working to discover and nurture the hidden talents of children living in slum areas beside the railway. As our aim is to identify talented individuals and help them achieve their dreams, we provide them with training in singing and dancing and also give them a platform to showcase their skills.  By providing access to training and performance opportunities, we hope to empower these children, give them a chance to shine, and help them unlock their true potential.

Encouraging Creativity

We at Sodepur Suzalam Society believe that every person possesses a unique set of talents and creativity that can open doors to new opportunities and possibilities and we are here committed to providing the necessary resources, support, and guidance to individuals looking to develop their talents and pursue their passions. We know that most of the poor and unprivileged artists including physically challenged individuals hold back on their dreams due to the lack of opportunities as well as financial resources. Hence we work to encourage and support people who have talents in different sectors especially in singing, dancing, sports, etc. to showcase their talent and help them achieve their goals and establish themselves in their respective fields. We believe that giving them a platform to showcase their creativity can uplift their self-esteem and provide them with a sense of pride and satisfaction. It brings us immense joy to see them pursue their dreams and put their talents to good use.

Cloth Distribution

Distributing new clothes to the unprivileged backward children is one of our grand initiatives.  Clothes are a basic necessity of human life for living a dignified life. And we are well aware that people from remote village areas of Bengal are literally struggling every day to make ends meet. Recognizing the need to support these people we have taken up the responsibility of providing new clothes to more than 450 children of tribal communities during the festive season of Durga puja. We believe that the lack of resources should not be a barrier to celebrating festivals and experiencing joy. So, we have taken this attempt with the hope to put a smile on their faces and make them feel valued and special. We feel proud to be able to contribute to their happiness and well-being.

Winter Cloth and Blanket Distribution

As We are concerned for the people’s well-being, we have taken a noble initiative to distribute winter clothes and blankets among the backward and marginalized tribal people living in Birbhum, Purulia, Bankura, and Medinipur in West Bengal. During winter, the severity of the cold often results in falling sick for the unprivileged who do not have adequate access to warm clothing and blankets. Sodepur Suzalam Society In recognition of this need has been working to provide free winter clothes and blankets to these people every year. Through this initiative, we aim to provide warmth and comfort to those who need it the most during the winter season and hope to improve the living conditions of the unprivileged and reduce the risk of life-threatening situations.

Stationery Materials Distribution

Our beloved organization Sodepur Suzalam Society is working to improve the education standards of students especially those from backward and below poverty lines. As their families are facing significant challenges in earning their basic needs, it is really difficult for these students to afford basic stationery materials, which is hindering their education and discouraging them from pursuing their dreams. That is why our organization aims to provide free stationery materials to these students to encourage their education, leading to the enhancement of the literacy rate of these areas as well as our Bengal. We hope that with the proper resources, these students can continue their education, achieve their potential and build a better future for themselves and their families

Emergency Relief

Sodepur Suzalam Society is also dedicatedly working to providing emergency relief during natural calamities to support the unprivileged and marginalized people with their basic necessities to survive the crises. During Amphan, we have distributed tarpaulin, bleaching powder, phenyl, ration kits, drinking water, baby food, sanitary napkins, and usable clothes among the disaster-affected people in Sunderbans and Medinipur, the two marginalized areas of West Bengal where natural disasters such as flood, cyclone often hinder the lives of people.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we also distributed food, ration kits, and other essential items to support the underprivileged and marginalized people who were affected by the pandemic.

In addition, we also have provided free COVID-19 vaccination drives to make sure that people have access to essential medical services. It is important to provide support during a crisis, and Sodepur Suzalam Society has taken the initiative to help people in need during these difficult times.

Medical Help for Special Kids

In India, a large number of differently-abled individuals come from unprivileged rural areas. Due to the lack of access to essential medical and support services, they face significant challenges in leading fulfilling lives. As Sodepur Suzalam Society is dedicated to improving their life, we are providing financial support to these special children belonging to marginalized backgrounds, giving them a chance to fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams.

We aim not only to provide financial support for physically challenged individuals but also to help them by distributing essential mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, walkers, and walking sticks, along with water beds, on International Persons with Disabilities Day every year. By providing this support, we aim to break down barriers and empower these individuals and create a more inclusive society, and promote equal opportunities for all.

Health Camp

‘He who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything’- the proverb goes. Sodepur Suzalam Society believes that health is the greatest possession of human life and we are committed to providing healthcare access to all, regardless of their financial situation. To achieve this, we organize free health check-up camps for the underprivileged and economically weaker individuals who cannot afford medical expenses. For this effort, our aim is to provide necessary medical assistance and also to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining hygiene and self-check-ups. We are grateful to our doctors and nurses for supporting these camps and providing their services selflessly to the needy. Through this initiative, we hope to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to maintain good health and lead fulfilling lives.

Forming Self-Help Groups

Self-help groups (SHGs) play a crucial role in empowering women by giving them the skills and confidence to earn a livelihood. Sodepur Suzalam Society is widely working to form SHGs with the unprivileged women in different rural areas of West Bengal through training programs such as jewelry making, paper bag making, candle making, gift item making, hand wash making, etc. Our aim is to encourage and train women to become financially independent and self-sufficient by showcasing their talents and skills. We also provide support to these women by helping them sell their products in markets and earn their own livelihood. We also provide support to these SHGs by helping them market their products and earn their own livelihood. Through this initiative, we believe we can bring positive changes to the lives of many women, promoting their social and economic well-being. We are proud to say that our efforts have helped numerous women become financially independent and have given them recognition for their talents.

Supplying Medical Kits

Medical kits are essential for any hospital, especially government hospitals that cater to a large number of patients. Recognizing the importance of these kits, Sodepur Suzalam Society has taken the initiative to supply medical kits to government hospitals to support their functioning. Through this initiative, we mainly aim to raise funds for continuing the social works of Sodepur Suzalam Society which in turn will help in the betterment of society. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have also donated medical kits worth Rs. 15,000 to a government hospital. We are proud to be able to contribute to the betterment of the healthcare system in our society. Moreover, we are doing it for our earnings as well, as the funds we generate through this project will help us continue our other charitable activities.

Encouraging Divyang Cricketers

“I choose not to place ‘Dis’ in my ability’- Yashpal Sharma, a physically challenged Indian cricketer. In our society, people with disabilities are often overlooked and discriminated against, especially in sports. With the belief in providing equal opportunities to everyone, Sodepur Suzalam Society is taking a step towards changing this situation by encouraging Divyang cricketers. We organize cricket matches and tournaments exclusively for them, giving them a platform to showcase their talent and also helping them by providing free sports kits. Our aim is to provide a platform for the Divyang cricketers to display their skills and gain recognition for their hard work. Through these events, we want to raise awareness about the talents of people with disabilities and promote their inclusion in society. We firmly believe that these efforts are very important to recognize and support the talents of Divyang cricketers, and we are proud to be a part of their journey toward achieving their dreams.

Feeding Generations Together

One of the dedicated initiatives of Sodepur Suzalam Society is to work towards improving the lives of those who are residing in orphanages and old age homes. Most of these individuals face a lack of proper nutrition and care, which can lead to inadequate nourishment and attention to their health and well-being. Through its efforts, the organization provides yearly meals to these residents, ensuring they receive the proper nutrition they need to stay healthy. Along with providing food, we also work to uplift and improve the lives of these individuals by providing them with a better quality of life, helping them access healthcare and education, and raising awareness about their situation in the community.

Free Covid Vaccination Drive

During the COVID-19 pandemic situation, vaccination has become a crucial aspect in controlling the spread of the virus. Sodepur Suzalam Society has taken a proactive step in this regard by conducting a free COVID-19 vaccination drive for 150 people. This drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sudipta Bhattacharya, one of our dedicated members and a medical professional. With the aim to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination, we have taken the initiative to organize the drive to ensure that people have access to the vaccine. By taking this initiative, our organization is contributing to the fight against the pandemic and helping people get vaccinated.
